I am curious. How many different approaches to narration do other writers take when writing anything really? I find many times, I consider the approach or viewpoint I am going to take when writing and it changes as I am writing in the raw first draft, which I usually leave alone for some time because I might loose something that was good in there without the connective words.
Secondly. I am also curious how some folks look at formal writing with grammar and structure as a construct or have many considered train of thought and even a random spray of words more like convulsion or spasm to be an element of the writing?

Hmmmm...Perhaps, I'm simplistic...But, it's all writing/poeming to me...And it's all good... Each piece I read, no matter what style of writing, has a life and a rythmn of it's own... That's what I look for when I read a piece, mine or anyone else's...Does the piece have a life of it's own, no matter how it's written? Sabrina.

sometimes the first draft has good stuff that I manage to louse up royally by trying to get it into a coherent grammatical form
so yes, there is for me anyway a struggle between getting the inspiration down, which is usually incoherent and unconnected, and then creating the narrative or the structure for those ideas and images to have a place to sit
sometimes a loose form is the best fit, particularly for shorter poems; sometimes I want a more grammatically connected kind of structure, especially if I intend to go on at some length and develop or articulate a theme of some sort
not sure if this responds directly to your question, John, but just thought I'd throw my 2 bits' worth in...

it is right on...I have intentionally left alone everything I have written in the last five years without editing, except those few things I consider just a light brushing off the lint for...I feel the same way about lousing up the first draft...
