A contact lens escaped from your eye
adrift on an ocean of beach sand...
A dropped coin that rolls
into the darkness of a street drain...

A violin string, wound to tightly,
snapping with a zing...
Virginity, innocence and youth...
Words that maim and bring harm...

Choices that make one a societal predator,
a sex offender or a heinous murderer...
A broken stilletto heel on your
favorite pair of cheap shoes...

Various and varying circumstances,
nonrefundable life instances
with one common denominator...
All are things you can't recover...

Excellent poeming.. for some reason, the thought of losing a contact lens (even though I don't wear them made me shudder) on a beach.. weird how the mind sometimes works

Thanks, David! I could never entertain the thought of wearing contacts myself...And it was meant to be a sort of abstract shudder visual...Good to know it worked that way with at least one reader...LOL...As when writing the piece, I visualized this sliver of glassine eye skin, utterly invisible in the sand, whilst it's "owner", on knees searched for it in that ocean of sand...And a barefooted runner stepped upon it, embedding it in his heel...Yes, strange and delightfully miraculous how the mind works...ggglgggl...
