It really can pay
to listen to one's gut...
Though I'm not known
for listening to my intuitions...
Today, I did...And it was a good thing...
One minute, I'm having a near routine day...
Starting my truck in a parking lot...
Buckling my seatbelt...
Putting the gear in drive,
but not taking my foot
off the brake...
As at that moment...
Something in my head, said...
Roll down the window, NOW!
And, so I did, with the fingers of one hand
as I held the steering wheel with the other,
eased off the brake, and gingerly
pressed the accelerator,
to move forward,
from my parking space...
Whoosh! Went the window...
And another sound whisk...Whisk...WHISK!
Switch! Went my foot, slammed back down
hard on the brake peddle
before I even looked out the open window
to see what was wheeling it's way towards me...
Good thing I didn't argue with my intuition...
Just reacted to it's command...
As if I hadn't of braked, immediately
due to that odd whisk of sound, which I heard,
because the window was down...
My truck would have been t-boned,
square in the middle of my driver side door,
by a car speeding recklessly across the lot,
against the rules, I might add and did...
Instead of prudently using the lanes
marked plainly for that purpose...
I had a Whewwwwwwwww moment...
Me, not battered to death fighting
off a monster, as expected...
But, killed by a nondescript,
sour faced old phart
in his sixties,
to cool
to follow
the rules,
looking at me,
like I did something wrong...
Instead of shooting him the finger,
as I went on my way...I shot him the peace sign...
His expression never changed a bit...Sour faced, old phart...
He could have at least cracked a derisive smile...
As he almost did the world a favor
and took me off this planet...
It really can pay
to listen to one's gut...
