It’s 5 Am and I’m mourning The death of a day without a prayer On my way to the grave and I’m scorning That you’re the star in my nightmare The play in my mind is my suffering You act this part on dirty knees Tipping back the head and your smothering Inside these arms of my disease
And will you run, so fast You fall upon the beating of your heart How long will you last When your pursuit of happiness just falls apart And you scavenge for scraps in the trash To piece back together a torn soul Within each desperate stitch of a gash Is one step closer to becoming whole
The needle tells a friend I’ve got your life in my hands Be still and I’ll help you to mend By closing up what they demand As the perfect life behind sad eyes They hide their pain to keep you down And it’s easier to give in to their lies A last gasp while you drown
And will you fall, so far That you’ve run out of dreams to believe in And the scars on your arms Show how comfortable you are in your own skin There is ugly in me you see But even more inside of you I bet we agree to disagree That I held the nail while you turned the screw
I flew on burning wings I bled you everything When will you break my heart I let you pull the strings In the love of my killing Maybe it was broken from the start

Dratted hellacious hellfire and damnation poeming... I've read it four times, now...And that's all I can think of to say about it, Messiah, after each read, my mind is scrubbed clean save for those words... Dratted hellacious hellfire and damnation poeming...It just is... Excellent twisting of cyphers, phrases and emotions...Like scraps of flesh, left hanging from a splintered cross, blowing and twisting in the wind, is this poem...Sabrina.

There is a beautiful dark tent to this sort of bleak love poem... Some great phrases all throughout but "The death of a day without a prayer" is just hauntingly gorgeous! Great job, Brand. Goes straight to the heart.

There's a great beat running through this poem BNW along with some terrific writing. It would really be unfair of me to single out any particular line, as the piece works so well from first to last, but I do especially like the last four lines of the first verse. Awesome contribution.
