Twilight Dragon
Deep within the graying mist Twilight Dragon sits precariousy upon its ancient battlement, glaring down at the reaper's merriment. Solemn, weary, resting quietly, burnt into arthritic stasis by too many wrinkled memories.
Tired steam fizzles from his gloomy, old nostrils, now breathing into withered lungs the last of a millennium's worth of musty recollections... Ah...! All those battles waged, lost! Won!
Drooping wings bent, broken, aged in scars, their color no longer vibrant, bright; the shape of his bloodstained fangs no longer a fright even to himself.
Eyes which once glowed red with angry fires, desire now all but expired, lolling sadly in their socket while watching younger, more aggressive dragons stride the burning air on pounding wings, soaring past dark stormy clouds, plummeting at supersonic speeds toward the ground then pulling up with such grace and ease scorching sky, earth, tree... so alive they are, the young, in their celebration with death and destruction.
But little does he share, this antiquated warrior of time gone by, with those who find pride in revelry, in their rebel cry, "Victory!" Those soldiers' tears joyous in death and in honor no longer stain his lids. No longer does he weep for all his fallen comrades napping in a timeless sleep.
War, rage, fear is reserved for them who own a heart young enough, bold enough to care.

Thanks, Dawn. Since I'm getting up there in age, alot of poetry has to do with getting older. This is just another poem about those male violent urges begin to wane as one gets older.

Well, you may be right, but men seem to be known for their ability to war more than women... But when it comes to violence, what man can stand up to Medea?

...none...
[but, you're right, men love war more than women...however, nothing is more fierce than a woman inspired for whatever reasons, to stand and deliver a violent punch...ggglgggl...it's that mother instinct thing, i think even women whom are childless, have...as it's hardwired into our species to protect...women will not generally start the fight...that's what your species does...ggglgggl...but, women will fight to protect...and nothing more vicious, than a momma lion, or a pissed off momma bluejay, for that matter, pecking a cat, five times her size just for walking a football field length from her nursery...i think the tendancy to become violent is ingrained in both species...LOL...one of the things that make us unerringly human...is that we are all monsters, within...even the Pollyannas and Poindexters...]

Totally agree. In nature the female is often more aggressive. The lioness does all the hunting... and don't even get me started on the black widow spider! hehehe! Don't give your love to Sexy Ida cause she is meaner than a black widow spider so if you give her your love you might as well give it to a spider Sexy Ida --Tina Tuner

I adore Tina*The Burner*Turner! Thanks for jogging my memory banks with that one...
Yes, the lioness does all the hunting, on long range kills...But, ah, the lionking makes up for his ineptitude when roving bands of bachelor males come to call...And, I didn't know, til not so long ago, a pride is most often ran by two males, not one and usually, they are brothers, or cousins...Definitely a two is better than one scenario...As we all know...If new males take over, they kill all the babies...Heartless, impatient creeps! ggglgggl...Inane yakking taking place..Shutting up...LOL...I am...So, should you...Nir.

Thw Medea project I've been talking about for years now with my counter part over at the school. He'd write original music for it. Our main problem is getting enough people for the chorus. We are a small school.

Good luck with that project, RRW! Keep us posted on it's progress. Yes, I can see you, as Medea, Dawness... I was the understudy for Eliza Doolittle's character, in My Fair Lady, in high school... And had a few lines, in the play, as a bit character...Loved drama class in high school... The most fun, was when we did improv exercises in class...We'd pull a slip of paper, out of a hat, and have to act out whatever was on the paper, that our teacher had written...Mrs. Lee...What a blast of a teacher she was...Laughed all the way through her drama class. Shutting up...Dawn keeps dragging me down memory lane on all the boards in here...hehehe...Nir.
