Dancing the light Fantastic!
Helen stumbled along the path leading to the Cortijo. It had been the wettest spring for years in this part of Spain, and the path had almost become a small stream. As she slithered on the small rocks and pebbles, Helen’s thoughts turned towards the coming weekend.
She had first seen the advertisement in a local magazine;
A weekend of light and creativity, relax in the serene ambience of the Axarquias most tranquil retreat center, paint, sing, dance, yoga…. And so it went on…
For some reason it was the word ‘light’ that had grabbed her attention. Helen had been feeling strange lately. Light headed. She put it down to overwork
“This is just what I need” she said to Kristen pointing at the ad. “The estate agency is really busy at the moment, and a weekend of relaxation will do me the world of good.”
Kristen had twisted her face. She thought that her friends ‘alternative’ leanings were a pile of Junk.
But now finally Helen found herself knocking on the huge wooden door of the Cortijo.
“Welcome Helen, we thought you’d got lost” A tall extremely good looking man was suddenly standing in front of her. “ please come in, I’m Gabbi, the course leader”
Helen was ushered into a long high ceilinged room. Six other people were standing around a blazing log fire holding wine glasses, and they smiled as she entered.
“This is Helen everyone! Helen’s been doing a lot of work with her spirit guides recently.”
There were nods of approval from the other guests.
Somebody thrust a glass into her hand, and Helen took a sip. ‘This is weird’ she thought. How did Gabbi know that.? It wasn’t something she talked about even to her closest friends let alone to a room full of strangers! Still she had been advised to go with the flow….
And the evening flowed beautifully. Before dinner they all did half an hour of yoga exercises, and after a sumptuous meal Gabbi produced a guitar, and one of the other men a violin. They played beautifully, and before she knew what was happening Helen found herself, along with the other guests dancing around the long room totally without inhibition. She felt so free and light; filled with the joy of being. Dancing the light fantastic!
All too soon the evening drew to a close. Everybody had their own room and Helen’s looked out over the path-cum-stream she had walked down earlier. To her delight the room was dominated by a huge four-poster bed, something that she had definitely not expected! It had been a full and exciting day and in no time she drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
Helen dreamt she found herself alone beside a stream, when suddenly a Landrover
Pulled up. Two men and a woman climbed out. One of the men was holding a clipboard.
“As you can see, this is a beautiful plot of land, one of the best on our books, there used to be a farmhouse here, but was destroyed some years ago in a fire. I think you’d both agree it will make an excellent location for your villa.”
The couple nodded their heads approvingly. Helen stepped forward towards them but they vanished, and abruptly her dream came to an end…
The next day Helen felt as though she were walking on air. The weekend was more than living up to her expectations, everybody was so friendly and natural. Basically a shy person Helen had worried a little how she would fit in. But now as she sat painting a watercolour of the Cortijo she couldn’t have been happier. What’s more Gabbi seemed to have taken a fancy to her; seeking out her company more than the others. That morning before breakfast they had found themselves momentarily alone together, and he had smiled at her in a way that had made Helen tingle. She silently chided herself sternly. Gabbi was simply being friendly, nothing more.
“A penny for your thoughts.” Her reverie was broken and Gabbi stood smiling next to her side.
Helen felt flustered at the nearness of him, and could smell the scent of patchouli.
“Oh I was just thinking how beautiful this weekend has been, and how I wish I could stay longer.”
Gabbi leaned over her shoulder and examined Helen’s painting.
“That’s a very good rendition, you clearly have a talent for painting.”
“Do I?” Helen felt a little foolish at such a limp response. But Gabbi seemed not to notice.
“Oh yes, your style is very angelic.” He fixed her with his gaze. “Do you know why you came here Helen. The real reason?”
Helen suddenly felt different, lighter and immersed in a peaceful glow. “Sometimes” she started haltingly “Sometimes I sense I am invisible to people, it’s crazy I know but I’m sometimes with friends or colleagues and it’s as though I wasn’t there. It’s not that they ignore me, it’s not that at all, They simply just don’t see me.”
Gabbi took hold of her hand. “That’s because they don’t see you Helen. Your vibrational rate is becoming so high you are becoming invisible to their physical perceptions. You are evolving into a higher form of being.”
Helen felt suddenly afraid. She wasn’t at all sure she wanted to become other than she already was. “Is it irreversible” she managed to squeak.
Gabbi laughed “don’t worry you’ll get used to it, and when you realise all the wonderous things that are going to happen to you you’ll wonder how you ever managed before.”
Later that afternoon Helen sat in her room gazing out of the window. A shaft of sunlight cut through the trees and she could see butterflies happily dancing. She knew to the depths of her being that something enormous was happening to her, and that the life she had known was about to change. But strangely, she felt no fear. She just felt.. well, strange, and as these thoughts passed through her mind, her shoulders suddenly started to ache…
“Everybody gather round. I have an announcement to make!”
They had just finished dinner and Gabbi was standing in the centre of the dining room.
“I’ve been on to head office and we are all due to leave in half an hour, so I suggest we all go into the garden and prepare.”
Helen felt alarmed. ‘Leave’ ‘leave where?’ The course wasn’t due to end until the following day. But before she could protest, Gabbi had taken her hand and was leading her into the garden.
“Don’t worry Helen” He said gently, “ everything will be just fine. Trust me”.
Gathered together in the garden they all held hands, and Gabbi began to sing in a beautiful high melodic voice. One by one the rest of the group began to join in, and Helen found herself amazed to discovered that she was singing also! But her shoulders were aching worse than ever.
What in heaven’s name was going on!
And then she saw it. Slowly at first, but as their singing intensified, she saw it with increasing clarity.
Everybody in the group, including herself was sprouting wings!
Soon Helen felt her body start to vibrate, and as it did so she began to rise into the air. She felt a lightness and peace she had never known, as higher and higher they all rose into the night sky, and looking by her side she saw the smiling face of Gabriel as she now knew him to be, and he pointed down towards the cortijo, which was slowly disappearing in a ball of light…
‘Gardner’s Antiques’ was just about to close for the siesta when suddenly a Landrover
Pulled up. A man and a woman climbed out.
Entering the shop the Woman walked immediately across to a watercolour painting of a ‘traditional Cortijo,’ she had spotted some days earlier. She and her husband had recently had a villa built, and now they where looking for items to furnish it. Turning to her husband she smiled;
“look Michael, isn’t it beautiful?”
Michael agreed that indeed it was. And so the painting now hangs proudly in the dining room of ‘villa de luz’ and is the subject of much admiration, and indeed not a little speculation, as the painting is unsigned and the artist unknown. But every so often in the quiet of the evening when Michael has retired to bed, Kristen will sit alone smiling in front of her new painting and silently wonder.
