hi; i haven't a heck of a lot to say. i guess i'm proud of the fact that i've been publishing for over 36 years now...14 books of poetry and 2 novels. the novels were lousy and only the last three books of poems were any good. i love baseball, Bob Dylan and my wife, Kathy. i hate rhymed poetry and consider it a crutch for the uninspired. i'm looking forward to reading the posts here whenever i have the time. i think you're onto something! good luck! john p.s. if anyone had any questions whatsoever, feel free to contact me directly at my e-mail...jyamrus@aol.com. just please introduce yourself so i know where you're coming from.

Hi John, Great to have you with us. Publishing for 36 years You must be doing something right ;D Bob Dylan? Yep I'm with you there. He is one of the great rhyming poets. Just re-posted one of his greatest in the lyrics forum. I really like what I've read of your poetry so far. David

touche re Dylan and his rhymes...although in my defense, the great man's a songwriter....of impossible depth and beauty...aw, hell...Dylan's a god, and beyond ordinary rules or ideas. his latest is just more proof of that.

It is nice to see you here, hon.
So glad you found this site, I hope you share as much of yourself and your writings here, as you do at Echoes.
Two of the most wonderfully friendly and supportive sites I know. There are actually four trusting sites I can feel at home with, and these are only two of them.
Looking forward to reading you ...
L_P/Lauren

Boo-hello gang and John not Johny, as I've interpreted it til now... Read a bit of your poeming last evening and throughly enjoyed it. I don't hate ryhmed verse, but don't strive to necessarily ryhme when writing myself. I prefer to write in free verse with the ryhme and rythmn falling as it may and will. Publishing for thirty six plus years, now? Cool...Look everybody..We have a brain to pick for publishment ideas! LOL Bob Dylan is cool, an accomplished lyricist, whether in the mood to ryhme or not . But, he should have let someone else sing his songs...[dodges baseballs and union jack flags]But, then again, I'm a big Stevie Ray Vaughn fan, and never thought he could sing to well, either. But, I kind of like the lyrics and sound of Robyn Hitchcock. But, I'm sorry...Dylan can't be a god...Nick Drake already ascended that throne, imho...LOL... Ya'll have a terrific Thursday. I'm working on it! Nir aka Sabrina

one of the comments to my "introduction" said you have a brain to pick re publication. really and truly, if anyone has any questions, please feel free to e-mail me. jyamrus@aol.com i'm more than happy to help out. why? because when i was starting out absolutely no one in the world helped me and it was god-awful. besides, i've always been a believer in karma...what goes around, comes around. so, i've always wanted to lay down as much good stuff as i could just to make sure that some of it bounces back at me. john

well, so many people try to "mystify" poetry...and they only do so to separate themselves from the pack...to make themselves seem special and clue-d in to some great secret. poetry's no great big secret. you sit down at the machine. you do it and then you go into the kitchen for a beer.

hehehe...no, that's the way you do it, writing...i don't do it and then go to the kitchen for a beer...LOL...couldn't resist...half of mine is done in longhand. took me forever to get used to thinking, as I was typing, when I first got this entity. [nirspeak for computer, as it has a mind of it's own, and it's not yet willing to follow my commands]
the first year, I started writing, I wrote in longhand and then typed my stuff up... half my stuff is still done or started in longhand, because most of my writing is done on the run...around my mommy schedule...LOL...i write thoughts here and there, on scraps of paper; and carry a pad of paper in my purse, for quickie writes or thoughts at the stop lights...or standing in line, at the grocery store...then, when i get the chance, i sit down at the machine and see what gels, that I've written scraps of, all day long, running here and there...
i don't deal with the hoity toity literati, so i'm not up on their opinions about poetry... i only know, few people have a taste for it and even fewer people are drawn to write it, poetry...
and in this day and age, yes it does fee like poetry is the bastard child of the literary world... an if you don't write prose or books, you're not shit kind of complex...one hundred or more years ago, we would have all had rich fat cat patrons supporting our brain gases...LOL...but not in this day and age...
anyway, i ramble..so, shutting up...rambling outta the box and into another...nir.

sabrina; for some reason (don't ask me why) your last post made me think of a thing i read somewhere asking people to say how many poems they've written in their lives...it caught my attention because some people, while not having exact counts, were able to say "a thousand"..."5 hundred"...whatever. they had numbers. that's fine...but the thing that interested me was that it seemed like the people had pretty much saved every poem they've ever written. i don't. i'm not saying that's better or worse...it just is, that's all. what i do is after two or three or four years, if something's not published somewhere...whether it's in one of my books or some magazine somewhere...then i throw it out, figuring it must not be very good if i can't find a home for it somewhere. right now my stack of "saved" poems is empty with the exception of everything written since my last book came out. everything that wasn't published before that has been pitched. maybe i'm crazy...but after a long enough period of time has passed i usually can't stand to look at them, anyway.

It's been an absolute pleasure, reading your work and getting to know you, John You have an ability too draw from the everyday events and make them into an inspiring and interesting re-cap of moments, that many would simply write off as "another boring day" and leave it at that. Thank you for sharing your talent, wit and experience. Look forward to reading much more of you. Respect, Soul
