I woke early.... before the sunrise had stretched across the open skies, and I stepped outside into the clean fresh air...
I watched... the steam rising from the pond like a scene from a haunted picture... until all the beautiful ducks broke through the fog forming little Vs as they swam by me, hurriedly on their way...
I listened ... as hundreds of birds filled the empty trees in front of me...
Their songs filled the open spaces and the elegance of their decoration adorned the many barren branches as though they were decorating a Charlie Brown Christmas tree just for me.
Even through my sleep filled vision I was overcome with the true essence of this unique moment and the fleeting beauty Nature had just gifted me.
I smiled... and held out my arms as if to embrace this moment in time... and hold on to it, putting it forever in my personal collection of ever-growing memories...

Thank you for placing this lovely gem where it belongs... Standing up in it's own thread on the Nature board...
Re-reading it, for a second I slipped out of Nirland... And I was standing next to you, on deltaland... It was a beautiful trip, Sammy...Thanks for taking me there! Hope you're doing well, sweets! Sabrina.

There is something magical about the south, though not too many people ever see it. It is really more of a feeling, I guess, than anything that can be viewed with just the naked eye. I do not know if it is in the "sweet" tea, the grits and fried country ham, the smiles on the people's faces, the lazy walking, slow talking people making you feel right at home..... or possibly the beautiful tall pines and the sweet smelling magnolias standing quietly by as if in welcome... the fireflies, frogs, and echoing crickets harmonize with the many different birds to consummate the quiet nights, the moonlight spilling over the banks of the Mississippi River, the haunting sound of a passing train fill the midnight hour's silence.... One has to open his heart and bare his soul to truly understand the south, but to catch just a glimpse of what it is all about could take a stranger a lifetime to figure out.

Spring is but a blink away now and already the sights and smells are out in full welcome form... The birds have returned and the animals cluster around eagerly awaiting the blooming springtime feast.... The dogs and cats are tiptoeing around (some ready to rekindle the earth) and the small cries can be heard through out our neighborhood... Garage sale signs are showing up all over the inner city now and people are walking around with new shorts and white legs showing off their new summer sandals... I had a wonderful sensation just last night as I opened my windows wide and breathed in the new fresh air.... The barbeque grills are coming out for summer's nearly here... The Farmer's Market opens in April and I love to walk it now... Fresh veggies and fruits, homemade jams, honey and jelly, plants and flowers abound... people smiling ear to ear and children laughing out loud. These are the new memories of spring I will carry with me now.

Springtime is a time for new beginnings... Birth and death resound around us bringing shape and form to a new interchanging world... New hopes, new dreams, new love... thoughts of life overcome the thoughts of death blending them into one notion.... And we are again caught up in the illusion that we are part of some solid supernatural force to be reckoned with..... Anything is possible! Life moves on and day after day we see it forming, hear it calling and feel it beneath our hands as we toil the good earth, mulching in the old leaves, and watching the sprouting new forms of growth take place in front of our very eyes, hope springs eternally...
Life is good!

From the silted delta of my mind my thoughts drag feet clotted with the mud of doubt between the toes...
Nature explodes about me in animal, plant and human form... As a desert grows inside my head... Heart grows heavy as a ton of lead...
I wish I knew where this poem was going... Perhaps it never was going anywhere... Except in my imagination...But, now I'm here, BOO-HELLO!
LOL... Greaty daying to you and the rest of the poetical crew, Sam! Catch me later, alligator, I think I'm out of here! That dratted duvet is serenading me...Sing... Sing...Singing...Come away from the computer, let me wrap you in downy scented comfort... While dreams blanket your misery with what is yet to come and be... Question: Do your blankets sing to you like that?
Truthfully, mine don't either... It just sounded funny... So, I thought I'd type it, honey... A duvet that sings and a dog that springs through window screens, who could ask for more in any lifetime? I sleep not because, I'm depressed... But, because it keeps me from lighting another dratted cigarette...LOL...
Well, I landed in this box, as I thought I'd wander the delta through your words... But, then I started a poem most absurd...About the delta sifting through my head... My sinuses hurt! I hate allergies! Have to write an acrostic about that subject... But, for now I'm downing a benadryl and and over my face throwing a warm, moist towel...Though I'd rather be hanging out in the yard, digging in the dirt, with a trowel and planting flowers, as gardening generally makes me smile...But, not in a long while, at least two years or more...
LOL...I'm in the mood to poem... But, my brain is in drain and thaw mode... So, now I leave this abode knowing, in my stead, others will poem on!
What a way to say, Hi, Sammy! Hope you're doing okay! LOL... Shutting up and I'm history as I imagine the duvet calling to me...Sabrina.

Springtime Prayer
For flowers that bloom about our feet, For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet, For song of bird, and hum of bee, For all things fair we hear or see, Father in heaven, we thank Thee!
For blue of stream and blue of sky, For pleasant shade of branches high, For fragrant air and cooling breeze, For beauty of the blooming trees, Father in heaven, we thank Thee!

Cat Owner's Prayer
Because I'm only human, It's sometimes hard to be The wise, all-knowing creature That my cat expects of me.
And so I pray for special help To somehow understand The subtle implications Of each proud meowed command.
Oh, let me not forget that chairs Were put on earth to shred; And what I like to call a lap Is actually a bed.
I know it's really lots to ask But please, oh please, take pity; And though I'm only human, Make me worthy of my kitty!

My Sweetest Memories
I see you in my mind just a beautiful vision in shades of lavender. The smell of honeysuckle fills the evening air; lightening bugs fly by and the sky is filled with stars so bright that I can see everything around me glowing. Far off, I hear the coming train and I remember where I am, I am home again... In sweet surrender I remain perfectly still hoping to retain the memory for just a few more moments.. As my eyes already fill with tears I already know in that brief moment of realization I awakened, reluctantly, only to put the memory back to its secret place... I now await it's return, longingly. And I am always hoping that this next time I forget where I am long enough to see your face and feel again your warm embrace. In my heart, I will always hold on tight... To my home...and you... my sweetest memories.
Sam
In dedication to my mom and dad.

It's a rainy afternoon in Kansas, April turning softly into May. Everything is blooming here and new life is abundant.
Cool nights are running out for this year, it seems. All the windows are opening as winter turns now to spring.
Storms keep forming all around us now and the people run and flee. Yet, I am not afraid.
I rely on nature's perfect way to warn me when it's time to go or if it's safe to stay.

I want to go back home where I truly belong! And, move into an old rusted out Winnebago, back in the north 40 behind my cousin's place! I want to pick wild berries and make some homemade wine! I want to get up before dawn and go fishing all day long! Cook up a mess of them for dinner, deep fried, hushpuppies, too! I want to fill the good earth squishing again between my toes. Breath the fresh air and scents that only come from back home. I need to go home soon, that is truly where my heart yearns to be. I've been fighting a losing battle living here in this big old city filled with concrete and strangers that seem so tortured and alone.... Maybe they too just need to go home.
I'll be home soon!

This time of year makes me yearn for home. The grass is so green and the trees are filled with fresh blooms. The fresh smells come out of the budding flowers and invade the senses with the very promise of forthcoming beauty. The people abandon their homes and shed their winter clothing as they pick up their plants and their seeds for the spring gardens. They are happy and smiling and fresh from the sunshine that shows in the joy on their face as they tenderly work the grounds. All through the countryside baby animals are tip-toeing around smelling the earth, glad of their birth just experiencing life for the very first time. Even with my eyes closed I see it so clearly, the memories so dear to me, the humble place called home.

A nature lover's delight catch up reading in this thread, Sams! I know you've got more, so just bring 'em on, dahlin'! Terrific Tuesday, Sammy! I think this is my nightie night post... Eyes feel gritty and heavy...So, sweet dreams and don't let the bedbugs bite...I shan't...But, I might get kicked around, as Mini-Me bit the heck out of her tongue earlier and it so tramatized her, she begged to sleep in my bed...Jeepers...She better not ever get preggers... If she thinks that pain in her tongue is bad...She hasn't seen anything, yet... Poor baby did bite the dratted heck out of herself, though...I would have cried, too...Nir.

Pure joy shows, and is so evident on my sweet grandbaby's face. His first real Easter he's old enough to remember, and he is in his glory, running all over the place. Not the Easter bunny, but a real live bunny brought this sheer joy into his shining eyes! Soft, fuzzy, tickling whiskers make my grandson laugh and he is truly in love with nature for the first time in his two year old life.

The Rain Came Down
They talked of sunshine and soft winds blowing, spring was almost in view. The trees bloomed out, the flowers shot up.. and everyone was smiling...
then the rain came down...
She walked around her garden, smiled her secret smile, and all the time she talked to the beautiful sunshine the birds were chirping, such a nice warm breeze...
'til the rain came down...
Why did the weather turn so cold and burn the tender leaves? Sometimes we just have to let it go. Mother Nature makes the call. Some things live, some things just have to fall.
Tonight we wait for snow. I went outside to look. And although I know it was not my call, I am still sad for all She took.
when the rain came down...

Beautiful colors surround me and I spin in circles to absorb them. Enchantment overtakes me and I humbly bow my head in reverence. Knowing I am not worthy, yet, grateful for the beautiful moment I have been given. Moments are to be cherished! Put away safely to memory, held with high regard, and pulled out as needed to remind ourselves that once upon a time..... we held a vision, we saw the colors of the rainbow, we danced to the rhythm of the rain, dined on love, and slept to the humming of Mother Nature.

The heat of summer is upon us. The flowers and plants reach for the shade on all sides, still growing and blooming. Not far off I already see the fall coming and already the end of summer begins to sadden me. The fruit ripens rapidly on the trees and the squirrels and rabbits feast daily. Soon, the winds will change and the trees will lay bare again. Freezing snow, and cold winds blowing will be the only visual left for us to see. Tightly, bundled up faces will be running around trying to get warm again wishing for these long, lazy days of summer to return.
