Don't know why this old song was running through my mind today. Think it was Claude King who wrote it, but the song has been performed by a number of artists.
Wolverton Mountain
They say don't go on Wolverton Mountain If you're looking for a wife 'Cause Clifton Clowers has a pretty young daughter He's mighty handy with a gun and a knife.
Her tender lips are sweeter than honey And Wolverton mountain protects her there The bears and birds tell Clifton Clowers If a stranger should wander there.
All of my dreams are on Wolverton Mountain I want his daughter for my wife I'll take my chances and climb that mountain Though Clifton Clowers, he may take my life.
Her tender lips are sweeter than honey And Wolverton mountain protects her there The bears and birds tell Clifton Clowers If a stranger should wander there.
I'm going up on Wolverton Mountain It's too lonesome down here below It's just not right to hide his daughter From the one who loves her so
Her tender lips are sweeter than honey And Wolverton mountain protects her there The bears and birds tell Clifton Clowers If a stranger should wander there
But I don't care about Clifton Clowers I'm gonna climb up on his mountain I'm gonna take the girl I love I don't care about Clifton Clowers I'm a gonna climb up on that mountain And I'll get the one I Iove I don't care about Clifton Clowers, I'm gonna find the one I love I don't care about Clifton Clowers I'm gonna find the one I love (repeat and fade)

I always wondered if he made it to the top of that mountain. Happy Superbowl Sunday!! Go New England!! Sam I don't know if he did or not According to wikipedia ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claude_King), the Clifton Clowers mentioned in the song was a real person who lived in Arkansas. Must be more to that story than the song tells. I have a funny feeling the guy who climbed the mountain didn't fare too well in the end. As to New England, oh grief!!! What happened? Oh well, they played a perfect season even without winning the last match. Pretty good team overall.

Knock em OutLily Allen uk.youtube.com/watch?v=SEkglpOTVCwAlright so this is a song about anyone, it could be anyone. You're just doing your own thing and some one comes out the blue, They're like, "Alright" What ya saying, "Yeah can I take your digits?" And you're like, "no not in a million years, you're nasty please leave me alone." Cut to the pub on a lads night out, Man at the bar cos it was his shout, Clocks this bird and she looks OK, Caught him looking and she walks his way, "Alright darling, you gonna buy us a drink then?" "Err no, but I was thinking of buying one for your friend..." She's got no taste hand on his waist, tries to pull away but her lips on his face, "If you insist I'll have a white wine spritzer" "Sorry love, but you ain't a pretty picture." [Chorus] Can't knock em out, can't walk away, Try desperately to think of the politest way to say, Just get out my face, just leave me alone, And no you can't have my number, "Why?" Because I've lost my phone. Oh yeah, actually yeah I'm pregnant, having a baby in like 6 months so no, yeah, yeah... "I recognise this guy's way of thinking..." As he comes over her face starts sinking, She's like, "Oh here we go.." It's a routine check that she already knows, she's thinking they're all the same. "Yeah you alright baby? You look alright still, yeah what's your name?" She looks in her bag, takes out a fag, tries to get away from the guy on a blag, can't find a light, "Here use mine" "You see the thing is I just don't have the time." [Chorus] Go away now, let me go, Are you stupid? Or just a little slow? Go away now I've made myself clear, Nah it's not gonna happen, Not in a a million years, [Chorus x2] Nah I've gotta go cos my house is on fire, I've got herpes, err no I've got syphilis... AIDS, AIDS, I've got AIDS!

I Came So Far For Beauty
by Leonard Cohen
I came so far for beauty I left so much behind My patience and my family My masterpiece unsigned I thought I'd be rewarded For such a lonely choice And surely she would answer To such a very hopeless voice I practiced all my sainthood I gave to one and all But the rumours of my virtue They moved her not at all
I changed my style to silver I changed my clothes to black And where I would surrender Now I would attack I stormed the old casino For the money and the flesh And I myself decided What was rotten and what was fresh
And men to do my bidding And broken bones to teach The value of my pardon The shadow of my reach
But no, I could not touch her With such a heavy hand Her star beyond my order Her nakedness unmanned
I came so far for beauty I left so much behind My patience and my family My masterpiece unsigned

Falling Through Time by Don McLean
I can't answer the questions you ask me, I don't know what to say. The answers are somewhere lost in the stars when the night has turned to day. But I know if the silence of night could be here, It would drift through my soul and calm all my fear And I could reach out and draw you so near to me
Touch me and warm me and I will lie still. And all that you ask me to give you I will One living moment we'll have for our own. A brief flash of time that we spent unalone. But you ask me for nothing and give what you can And we're wrapped in a pillow of sleep once again And my memory drifts through the universe when we are one
Closely, we're falling through time
And the earth will turn in the silence of space, always in motion yet always in place And all things will change yet remain what they are. And far will be near and near will be far And the ages will darken and blend into time And all that is poetry will no longer rhyme But our moment together is forever sublime
For the time has arrived when we must understand That we're lost in a void on this sad speck of sand And nobody knows where we are, no one cares And the tears that we shed in the dark, no one cares And the madmen who plunder this world for their fame Have forgotten that no one remembers their name But time and the universe are always the same
Closely, we're falling through time

Sara Bareilles Song Title: Love Songvideo at youtube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MR5xv3pt7KIHead under water And you tell me To breathe easy for awhile The breathing gets harder Even I know that Made room for me It's too soon to see If I'm happy in your hands I'm unusually hard to hold on to Blank stares at blank pages No easy way to say this You mean well but you make this hard on me I'm not gonna write you a love song Cause you ask for it Cause you need one You see, I'm not gonna write you a long song Cause you tell me it's make or breakin' this If you're on your way I'm not gonna write you to stay If all you have is leavin' I'm gonna need a better reason To write you a love song Today Today.. I learnt the hard way That they all say Things you wanna hear My heavy heart sinks deep down under You and your twisted words Your help just hurts You are not what I thought you were Hello to high and dry Convinced me to please you Made me think that I need this too I'm trying to let you hear me as I am I'm not gonna write you a love song Cause you asked for it Cause you need one You see, I'm not gonna write you a love song Cause you tell me it's make or breakin' this If you're on your way I'm not gonna write you to stay If all you have is leavin' I'm gonna need a better reason To write you a love song today Promise me You'll leave the light on To help me see The daylight my guide, gone Cause I believe There's a way You can love me Because I say I won't write you a love song Cause you ask for it Cause you need one You see, I'm not gonna write you a love song Cause you tell me it's make or breakin' this Is that why you wanted a love song? Cause you asked for it Cause you need one You see I'm not gonna write you a love song Cause you tell me it's make or breakin this If you're on your way I'm not gonna write you to stay If your heart is nowhere in it I don't want it for a minute Babe, I walk the seven seas When I believe that there's a reason to write you a love song Today. Today..

Heavy Load - Free
(Fraser / Rodgers)
Just a young man By an old road By the route he choose.
An ancient song In an old tongue For this man was sung.
Oh I'm carrying a heavy load Can't go no further down this long road It's a heavy load...
By a bright stream Came an old dream Things are never what they always seem And so he went on Travelling on Now he's a long way from home
Oh I'm carrying a heavy load Can't go no further down this long road It's a heavy load...
Oh I'm carrying a heavy load Can't go no further down this long road Oh I'm carrying a heavy load Can't go no further down this long road Oh I'm carrying a heavy load Can't go no further down this long road Oh I'm carrying a heavy load Can't go no further down this long road

Anyone Else But You lyrics by the Moldy Peaches from the Juno movie soundtrack
You're a part time lover and a full time friend The monkey on your back is the latest trend I don't see what anyone can see in anyone else...but you I'll kiss you on the brain in the shadow of the train I'll kiss you all starry eyed my body swingin' from side to side I don't see what anyone can see in anyone else...but you Here is the church and here is the steeple We sure are cute for two ugly people I don't see what anyone can see in anyone else...but you Pebbles forgive me, the trees forgive So why can't you forgive me I don't see what anyone can see in anyone else...but you I will find my niche in your car With my MP3, DVD, rumble pack guitar I don't see what anyone can see in anyone else...but you Up up down down left right left right B A start Just because we use cheats doesn't mean we're not smart I don't see what anyone can see in anyone else...but you You are always tryin' to keep it real I'm in love with how you feel I don't see what anyone can see in anyone else...but you We both have shiny happy fits of rage You want more fans, I want more stage I don't see what anyone can see im anyone else...but you Don Quixote was a steel driving man My name is Adam I'm your biggest fan I don't see what anyone can see in anyone else...but you Squinched up your face and did a dance Shook a little turd out of the bottom of your pants I don't see what anyone can see in anyone else...but you But you

Something - George Harrison
Something in the way she moves Attracts me like no other lover Something in the way she woos me
I don't want to leave her now You know I believe her now
Somewhere in her smile she knows That I don't need no other lover Something in her style that shows me
Don't want to leave her now You know I believe her now
You're asking me will my love grow I don't know, I don't know You stick around now it may show I don't know, I don't know
Something in the way she knows And all I have to do is think of her Something in the things she shows me
Don't want to leave her now You know I believe her now

Train in the distance - Paul Simon
he was beautiful as southern skies The night he met her She was married to someone He was doggedly determined that he would get her He was old, he was young From time to time hed tip his heart But each time she withdrew Everybody loves the sound of a train in the distance Everybody thinks its true Well eventually the boy and the girl get married Sure enough they have a son And though they both were occupied With the child she carried Disagreements had begun And in a while they fell apart It wasnt hard to do Everybody loves the sound of a train in the distance Everybody thinks its true Two disappointed believers Two people playing the game Negotiations and love songs Are often mistaken for one and the same Now the man and the woman Remain in contact Let us say its for the child With disagreements about the meaning Of a marriage contract Conversations hard and wild But from time to time He makes her laugh She cooks a meal or two Everybody loves the sound of a train in the distance Everybody thinks its true Everybody loves the sound of a train in the distance Everybody thinks its true What is the point of this story What information pertains The thought that life could be better Is woven indelibly Into our hearts And our brains

Vampire lyrics by Antsy Pants
I am a vampire I am a vampire I am a vampire I am a vampire I am a vampire Empire I am a vampire I have lost my fangs
I am a vampire I am a vampire I am a vampire I have lost my fangs
So I'm sad and I feel lonely So I cry and I'm very angry And I eat some garlic So I'm no more satanic yeah yeah
I am a vampire and I am looking in the city But the pretty girls don't look at me Don't look at me Cause I don't have my fangs But I have lost my fangs
I am a vampire I am a vampire I have lost my mouth again I am a vampire I am a vampire I have lost my mouth again
So I get bored and I shout So I eat pop corn and I put on weight And I sing but my voice is breaking And I want to play the guitar But my guitar is out of tune
I am a vampire and I'm walking in the city But the musicals don't play with me, don't play with me Cos' I don't have my mouth again Cos' I have lost my mouth again
Because I don't have my mouth again Cause I have lost my mouth again

She's My Rock lyrics as sung by George Jones
Well, You tell me how she was when you once knew her How She played her games with many, many men And you tell me that you don't think I'd be with her If I could have known her back then Lord, You ask me why I don't pack up and leave her Now that I know about her wicked ways Well, I doubt that you could understand my thinking Oh, But listen close to what I have to say Chorus: She's the rock that I lean on She's the sunshine of my day And, I don't care what you say about her Now, She took me in and made me everything I am today She's my rock and I ain't gonna throw her away! I know she wasn't always what she is now Lord, She had to make mistakes like everybody else And don't you point you finger at nobody It's plain to see you ain't no saint yourself Chorus: She's the rock that I lean on She's the sunshine of my day And, I don't care what you say about her Now, She took me in and made me everything I am today She's my rock and I ain't gonna throw her away Yes, She's my rock and I ain't gonna throw her away Yes, She's my rock and I ain't gonna throw her away...

"The Beautiful People" lyrics by Marilyn Manson
And I don't want you and I don't need you Don't bother to resist, or I'll beat you It's not your fault that you're always wrong The weak ones are there to justify the strong
The beautiful people, the beautiful people It's all relative to the size of your steeple You can't see the forest for the trees You can't smell your own shit on your knees
There's no time to discriminate, Hate every motherfucker That's in your way
[Chorus:] Hey you, what do you see? Something beautiful, something free? Hey you, are you trying to be mean? If you live with apes man, it's hard to be clean
The worms will live in every host It's hard to pick which one they eat most
The horrible people, the horrible people It's as anatomic as the size of your steeple Capitalism has made it this way, Old-fashioned fascism will take it away
[Chorus]
There's no time to discriminate, Hate every motherfucker That's in your way
The beautiful people The beautiful people (aahh) [x4]
[Chorus x2]
The beautiful people [x8]

Part of the Plan - Dan Folgelberg (simple, but also wise)
I have these moments, all steady & strong I'm feeling so holy & humble The next thing I know I'm all worried & weak And I feel myself starting to crumble.
The meanings get lost And the teachings get tossed And you don't know what you're going to do next. You wait for the sun but it never quiet comes Some kind of message comes thru to you Some kind of message comes thru. And it says to you....
Chorus: Love when you can Cry when you have to Be who you must That's a part of the plan Await your arrival with simple survival And one day we'll all understand....
I had a woman Who gave me her soul But I wasn't ready to take it. Her heart was so fragile And heavy to hold And I was afraid I would break it
Your conscience awakes And you see your mistakes And you wish someone would buy your confessions. The days miss their mark And the night gets so dark And some kind of message comes thru to you Some kind of message shoots thru And it says to you....
(Chorus)
There is no Eden or Heavenly gates That you're gonna make it to one day But all of the answers you seek can be found In the dreams you dream on the way.

Great pick! I remember the album that song was on. Here is a youtube video of To the Morning by Dan Fogelberg: www.youtube.com/watch?v=daZhgvIu3UM&feature=relatedDan Fogelberg Home Free (1973) To The MorningWatching the sun Watching it come Watching it come up over the rooftops. Cloudy and warm Maybe a storm You can never quite tell From the morning. Chorus And it's going to be a day There is really no way to say no To the morning. Yes it's going to be a day There is really nothing left to Say but Come on morning. Waiting for mail Maybe a tale From an old friend Or even a lover. Sometimes there's none But we have fun Thinking of all who might Have written. And maybe there are seasons And maybe they change And maybe to love is not so strange. The sounds of the day They hurry away Now they are gone until tomorrow. When day will break And you will wake And you will rake your hands Across your eyes And realize That it's going to be a day There is really no way to say no To the morning. Yes it's going to be a day There is really nothing left to say but Come on morning.

Leaving New York
by R.E.M.
It's quiet now, and what it brings, is everything comes calling back, a brilliant night, I'm still awake I looked ahead, I'm sure I saw you there. You don't need me to tell you now, that nothing can compare
(chorus) You might've laughed if I told you, You might have hidden your frown. You might've succeeded in changing me, I might've been turned around. It's easier to leave than to be left behind, Leaving was never my proud, Leaving New York never easy, I saw the light fading out.
Now life is sweet, and what it brings I tried to take. the loneliness it wears me out, it lies in wake. and all I've lost, you're in my eyes, shatter a necklace across your thighs i might've lived my life in a dream but i swear it, this is real memories refuses, and it shatters like glass mercurial future, forget the past, but it's you, it's what I feel
You might've laughed if I told you, You might have hidden your frown. You might've succeeded in changing me, I might've been turned around. It's easier to leave than to be left behind, Leaving was never my proud, Leaving New York never easy, I saw the light fading out.
Find it in your heart, it's pulling me apart, Find it in your heart, it's pulling me apart.
I told you, forever, I love you, forever I told you, forever, I love you, forever I told you, forever, I love you, forever I told you, forever, I love you, forever
You might've laughed if I told you, You might have hidden your frown. You might've succeeded in changing me, I might've been turned around. It's easier to leave than to be left behind, Leaving was never my proud, Leaving New York never easy, I saw the light fading out.
Leaving New York never easy, I saw the light fading out.

Wild angels lyrics by "Martina MCbride
Between the perfect world and the bottom line Keeping love alive in these troubled times It's a miracle in itself And we know too well what that's about Still we made it through, only God knows how We must've had a little help (Must've been)
Wild Angels, Wild Angels Watching over you and me Wild Angels, Wild Angels Baby what else could it be
Well it must've been hard, it must've been tough Keeping up with crazy fools like us 'Cause it's so easy to fall apart And we still break each other's heart sometimes Spent some nights on the jagged side Somehow we wake up in each other's arms (Must've been)
Wild Angels, Wild Angels Watching over you and me Wild Angels, Wild Angels Baby what else could it be
There are some nights I watch you while you dream I swear I hear the sound of beating wings
Wild Angels, Wild Angels Watching over you and me Wild Angels, Wild Angels Baby what else could it be

This is kind of an interesting old song and video: Crow by Dan Fogelberg www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQJIDcggV_8CrowSomewhere on a lonely muddy country road I heard your song, crow, for the first time Somewhere in the distance wicked, black and low Made me feel as I was running from a crime Made me feel as I was running from a crime Some say she died of drowning in the river deep Some say she died of a sudden start Some say they found her swinging from my old man's tree And some folks say she died of a broken heart And some folks say she died of a broken heart I can't believe they would pay men just to hunt me down But silver coins to each one do they give And by now there's a gallows standing in the town And I wonder how much more I have to live And I wonder how much more I have to live Somewhere on a lonely muddy country road I heard your song, crow, for the last time Somewhere in the distance wicked, black and low Made me feel as I was running from a crime Made me feel as I was running from a crime Made me feel as I was running...from a crime

Wake Me Up Inside lyrics by Evanescence
How can you see into my eyes Like open doors? Leading you down into my core, Where I've become so numb.
Without a soul, My spirit's sleeping somewhere cold, Until you find it there and lead it back Home.
(Wake me up) Wake me up inside. (I can’t wake up) Wake me up inside. (Save me) Call my name and save me from the dark. (Wake me up) Bid my blood to run. (I can’t wake up) Before I come undone. (Save me) Save me from the nothing I've become.
Now that I know what I'm without, You can't just leave me. Breathe into me and make me real. Bring me to life.
(Wake me up) Wake me up inside. (I can’t wake up) Wake me up inside. (Save me) Call my name and save me from the dark. (Wake me up) Bid my blood to run. (I can’t wake up) Before I come undone. (Save me) Save me from the nothing I've become.
Bring me to life. (I've been living a lie. There's nothing inside) Bring me to life.
Frozen inside without your touch, Without your love, darling. Only you are the life among the dead.
(All of this sight, I can't believe I couldn't see Kept in the dark but you were there in front of me) I've been sleeping a 1000 years it seems. I've got to open my eyes to everything. (Without a thought Without a voice Without a soul Don't let me die here. There must be something more).
There's nothing inside) Bring me to life

Wooden Ships by Crosby, Stills, and Nash www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rh1pfg90GOkStills: If you smile at me, I will understand 'Cause that is something everybody everywhere does in the same language. Crosby: I can see by your coat, my friend, you're from the other side, There's just one thing I got to know, Can you tell me please, who won? Stills: Say, can I have some of your purple berries? Crosby: Yes, I've been eating them for six or seven weeks now, haven't got sick once. Stills: Probably keep us both alive. Wooden ships on the water, very free and easy, Easy, you know the way it's supposed to be, Silver people on the shoreline, let us be, Talkin' 'bout very free and easy... Horror grips us as we watch you die, All we can do is echo your anguished cries, Stare as all human feelings die, We are leaving - you don't need us. Go, take your sister then, by the hand, lead her away from this foreign land, Far away, where we might laugh again, We are leaving - you don't need us. And it's a fair wind, blowin' warm, Out of the south over my shoulder, Guess I'll set a course and go...

Southern Cross by Crosby, Stills, and Nash www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNKg8Ex4Xr0(some very nice photos of wooden ships in the video) Got out of town on a boat Goin' to Southern islands. Sailing a reach Before a followin' sea. She was makin' for the trades On the outside, And the downhill run To Papeete. Off the wind on this heading Lie the Marquesas. We got eighty feet of the waterline. Nicely making way. In a noisy bar in Avalon I tried to call you. But on a midnight watch I realized Why twice you ran away. Chorus Think about how many times I have fallen Spirits are using me larger voices callin'. What heaven brought you and me Cannot be forgotten. I have been around the world, Lookin' for that woman/girl, Who knows love can endure. And you know it will. And you know it will. When you see the Southern Cross For the first time You understand now Why you came this way 'Cause the truth you might be runnin' from Is so small. But it's as big as the promise The promise of a comin' day. So I'm sailing for tomorrow My dreams are a dyin'. And my love is an anchor tied to you Tied with a silver chain. I have my ship And all her flags are a flyin' She is all that I have left And music is her name. Chorus Think about how many times I have fallen Spirits are using me larger voices callin'. What heaven brought you and me Cannot be forgotten. I have been around the world, Lookin' for that woman/girl, Who knows love can endure. And you know it will. And you know it will. So we cheated and we lied And we tested And we never failed to fail It was the easiest thing to do. You will survive being bested. Somebody fine Will come along Make me forget about loving you. At the Southern Cross.

BitchMeredith Brooks I hate the world today You're so good to me I know but I can't change tried to tell you but you look at me like maybe I'm an angel underneath innocent and sweet Yesterday I cried You must have been relieved to see the softer side I can understand how you'd be so confused I don't envy you I'm a little bit of everything all rolled into one Chorus: I'm a bitch, I'm a lover I'm a child, I'm a mother I'm a sinner, I'm a saint I do not feel ashamed I'm your health, I'm your dream I'm nothing in between You know you wouldn't want it any other way So take me as I am This may mean you'll have to be a stronger man Rest assured that when I start to make you nervous and I'm going to extremes tomorrow I will change and today won't mean a thing Chorus Just when you think you've got me figured out the season's already changing I think it's cool you do what you do and don't try to save me Chorus I'm a bitch, I'm a tease I'm a goddess on my knees when you hurt, when you suffer I'm your angel undercover I've been numbed, I'm revived can't say I'm not alive You know I wouldn't want it any other way uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rhfiiGGy7Ls

Nature BoyWords & Music by Eden Ahbez en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eden_AhbezThere was a boy A very strange enchanted boy They say he wandered very far, very far Over land and sea A little shy And sad of eye But very wise Was he And then one day A magic day he passed my way And while we spoke of many things, fools and kings This he said to me "The greatest thing You'll ever learn Is just to love And be loved In return" (instrumental interlude) "The greatest thing You'll ever learn Is just to love And be loved In return"
