the great 75 year old UK poet Milner Place is someone who MUST be read. his entire life he's been writing poems of great beauty, but for my money the poems he's written in recent years, many of them concerning aging and his own mortality are great poetry in the fullest sense of the word. i'll post one of my favorites and you can decide for yourself.
Last will and testament
I leave you my breath, cantankerous bones, various organs; to sleep in the shade of willows, in a warm bed among ships.
I bequeath a blunt knife, threads of unravelled string, nets, pointed stakes, untended acres, the scent of almonds.
I adjure you not to forget the picnic basket, and when you come to me with full arms, bring a sprig of thyme, a bell full of grapes, a gentle horse.
His current books are only available thru him and some other outlets, although he's got 2 or three coming out this year. to respect his privacy i won't post his e-mail here, so if anyone wanted to contact him regarding the purchase of his books, please write to me at jyamrus@aol.com and i'll give you his address. when you write to him, please be sure to tell him you got his e-mail from me and please respect the man's time. john

Stellar writing, I must agree, Yams. Fascinating... In fact, thus far, I've been fascinated by the works of all the poets you've suggested the reading of. I read one of Bukowski's, yesterday, I almost posted in the thread commemorating his work, on the favorite poems and poets board, titled Man, or I'm a Man, was it? Whew...Talk about racy and dark...But, such godawful hellaciously good writing...I hesitated to post that one...LOL... Anyway, I dunno...Here's a hint...When you have a poet you'd like to share the experience of with us...Please, pretty please, post the work of him or her, on the Favourite Poems and Poets board... I already added this wonderful writer to the retinue over there...If you have more of his pieces, or the others you find noteworthy, please feel free to bring 'em on, mi amigo. Sabrina.

here's one more by the great Milner Place. again, if you want to find out about his books, write to me. check this out...
soliloquy
a garden full of restless birds isn’t the place to wing away
it takes a sunset streaked by lazy clouds it takes such music as a blind man sees it needs the smell of baking bread the soughing of a pining wind weeping of curlews on far fells
it takes the perfume of abandoned sheets to make the heart dance run through dark forests with the hunting wolves
.........................Milner Place
