watercolour
a windowpane dusty laced with cobwebs looks out to sea where shafts of yellow light pierce a blackened sky
sand sparkles flecked with silver the tide recedes leaving the shoreline awash green with foam and seaweed
footprints weave a mazy trail to the water’s edge a visible sign some human presence passed this way
a shadow-line blurring the transition between land and sea where solid and liquid blend incoherently and vanish into each other
far out to sea a seagull sails aloft white form merging into black space
rain begins to fall trickles down the windowpane and all the colours bleed together into an ash-grey flood
