The bannister is draped
with several dilapidated nets
awash with a haul of creepy clutter-
bats, rats and spiders, oh my!
A jack o'lantern grins
crookedly in a carved manner
from the corner of the landing; ;D
a skull, blinged out in purple glitter
smiles in toothsome violet
brilliance from the other corner,
accompanied by a retinue
of fat black spiders
Early October moon
grows full and bright
as the promise of children
costumed as various goblins and ghouls
ascending the steps to trick 'r treat
on the eve of the thirty-first of the month
(Pity, always a couple that never make it back home)
A sign hanging askew by the door
declares, "Welcome! The Witch is in!"
as, the witch within...
Lights the fire,
hangs the cauldron
and waits
for the fun
to begin...
