The approval of human beings
is fickle, volatile, forever uncertain
and beyond one's control.
In seeking it,
a person becomes
powerless to secure their self-esteem,
having relinquished that power
to external sources.

This is so true, and yet we all want to be liked and approved of. Maybe the approval and the seeking of it are both "fickle, volatile, forever uncertain and beyond one's control." In any case - I like this!

I have spent sooooo much of my life doing that..it is still rather much for me to approve myself.
