Getting by.
When it came, the fall of man was not as quick as most of us imagined... I was surprised how doggedly the last few scraps of humanity clung onto existence.
At the beginning, when they had started their final conflict. “A war to end all wars,” some misguided leader or another had said I believe. How true those words became.
We waited in the shadows and watched their doom unfold... For all their advanced weaponry that they had amassed at their command, and with so many fruitless years they had fought each other. The human world started its tortured decent to oblivion. But it was a simple organism that claimed most survivors leaving just a scant few who were immune roaming their fallen realm.
It was for us as if time had been turned back... Ahh the dark ages were so good for us, small isolated population groups, and perfect hunting grounds for a vampire.
The survivors were such easy prey for such as us, but of course this easy meat eventually dried up as humanity became extinct. I often wonder what the last human thought. Was there any realization that the end of man was a heartbeat away… No matter, for I’m sure that one of my kind fed heartily on their sorry carcass.
Changing ones feeding habits after centuries was such a hard thing for many to do. But we manage to get by on the rats so abundant these days.
Darkness.

Droll. So pleasingly, darkly droll.

Thank you anirbas. Got to admit stories are not my strong point. But I try. Thank you for reading. And your kind comments.
