Carrion.
The battlefield is quiet now that fighting’s at an end,
Except the mortal wounded that I’ll soon to heaven send,
Their moaning drew me here this night to take their blood and feed,
Soon their pain and suffering will go and in turn I’ll sate my need,
To spot by chance a wench whose lover lies dying on the field,
She cradles him with loving care while to death his soul does yield.
As tears run down those rosy cheeks I move forward for the kill,
A single bite into her neck so I may take my fill,
So sweet the blood of those with such emotion in their minds,
And while the dying watch my deed her heaven she will find,
Now dispatched into the void to meet her lover once again,
I drop the corpse onto the ground to find others who’re in pain.
Such service I do now extend to so many in such need,
Though they do not really understand the reasons why I feed,
So many fight with their last breath to keep my kind at bay,
To suffer grievous from their wounds till the coming of the day,
If they could only understand what hunger I can hold,
No reason to waste precious blood that is useless when it’s cold.
Time now closes in on me for dawn will soon be here,
I leave this place where shadows wait for those who die with fear,
My feasting ends at last for now I must take cover from the day,
So many souls I have dispatched to take their pain away.
Darkness.

Lovely, lovely alternate perspective of death. Well written and it rhymed and chimed.

In the end death is death, what ever the mechanism.
Death is never something to be afraid of because it will happen to all of us one day. What people fear is the way of dying, and the uncertainty of an existence beyond it. Personally I do not fear death. If you think about it we dice with death every day we are alive.
We have funerals for the living in a way, but this also focuses the mind on peoples mortality.
Thank you for reading anirbas.

You are absolutely welcome, friend Darkness. It is well written and well read aloud, . I've not been around as much as I'd like to be of late. Other than to pop in here and there and throw my own poetical offerings at the walls of the halls. Haha. I can see I've missed some good reads by all of you.
Yes, in the end, death is death. And nothing to fear even when one, or all of the various motors of our corporeal bodies break down for good in old age, if we are lucky enough to live a long life. Myself, I haven't feared death since I was twenty-two.
I've thought we have funerals for the living, as well.

I too have been preoccupied with other things of late anirbas. Fear of death is one thing, but you also have people who have a fear of life too, and I think this is worse in many ways. again. Thank you for your kind words.
