Here’s a little puzzle for you to solve... A Farmer has A CHICKEN; A FOX and A BAG OF GRAIN all of which he needs to transport across the river The problem is that the Farmer’s boat can only take ONE item across at a time. In what order does he take The Chicken, Fox and the grain?

the grain, the fox and then the chicken? That would mean the Fox and Chicken would be left together, whilst the grain is being moved

OK... How about the fox, the grain and then the chicken? Do you really want to leave all that grain with the Chicken

I'd say chicken first, then grain, then fox. It could also be fox first, then grain, then chicken. But I kind of like the first option, mainly because I think the chicken would stay put on the other side, at least until the grain got there, because it would be unsure of the new surroundings and therefore unlikely to move very much. If the chicken went last, it would not have any grain to keep it where it was, plus it would be familiar with its surroundings and therefore not so likely to stay put. As to the question of keeping a fox in one place without a cage to move it in, I can't answer that one. So, chicken first, then grain, then fox. If the fox and the chicken are in separate cages, the order doesn't matter much at all. Or how about this: let the chicken eat the grain and the fox eat the chicken, and then the farmer needs to make just one trip!

If chicken is the first to go And then the fox, then chicken stowed Back in the boat in trip reverse, Exchanged for grain, again traverse And plop the grain right by the fox Then lonely chicken brought across. ;D

Okay. My other idea was to have the farmer eat the chicken, and make one full-bellied trip across the river with the grain. Then mill the grain and bake bread. As for the fox...farmers generally don't need foxes, so it was better left where it was.

Of course, if the fox was of the two-legged variety, that would put things in a little different light. And what if the chick was the featherless kind? And the grain, maybe the 80 proof variety? I believe I'm getting a whole different picture. RR3

Farmers are pretty busy people, David. They have cattle to tend, horses to feed, fences to mend, and fields to seed. Very few have time to row boats. That is the simple truth. I mean really. Rowing foxes, chickens, and bags of grain across a river!! ;D ;D ;D

personally, I would have let the chicken eat the grain then let the fox eat the chicken and then you'd only have to make one trip. Ok yes, they might not technically be in the shape you were stating but hey all 3 are across the river lol.
