I have a question...
One that at me has been nagging...
What makes a poet a poet?
Is it the crafting of perfect meter and rhyme?
Not really...Jingo writers can do that, too...
But, that doesn't make them poets, like me and you...
Perhaps what makes a poet a poet is...
Ginning and spinning sonnets that chime?
No, it's not that...Freeverse has a mind of it's own...
And yet, even without so called structure, it's still a poem...
Happenchance, a poet is only a poet if published?
Either by the luck of the draw or paying to do so?
I'm not buying that, no...Poets aren't bought and paid for...
Til they are of course, with the luck of the draw...
Poets are born, not made by money transference.
To write poetry is a spiritual, not physical birthright...
Both blessing and cursing...
For to be born to write poetry...Means one was born
to feel...To witness...To spectate and speculate...To record...
To forever be thinking even in a crowded room,
of the threads one left on the loom in one's head...
To be born to write poetry is an honor, an obligation...
Not just a gifting...As poets express, speak, elocute...
What the rest of the world feels or thinks, but cannot say,
as they do not have the words to do so...
We are the world, we are the pulse, we are the vein...
We are the mind, spirit and heart of many, palpitating...
To be a poet, is to be both the entertainer
and the conscience of the world, at large and small...
I digress, what was the question? What makes a poet a poet?
Obviously, I know the answer...Just wondering if you do...
Next query...I'm not through with you, yet...Do you know
you're a poet? Each and everyone of you?
You should...As your individual works certainly show it!
And have contributed to making this place a showstopper!
Okie dokie...Ego stroking session and coffee break is over...
Back on your heads...Poetry? Got more? Got more? Got more?
Signed sincerly,
You're cypherical, metaphorical
on site Mother Superior, Nirlysane.
Blessed be...ggglgggl...But just do it...Blessed be...
