The Wer
I
Light a candle by the alter
Keep this darkness black and vile
At a distance do not falter.
Sheppard, guard your wayward sheep,
Good mother, tend your children's sleep.
On pad-foot through our midnight hollow
the Wer casts forth its savage shadow.
II
An eyeless moon pale and somber,
Devil's tongue red with burning
Lights its way while you slumber.
Stars a torch that stokes all fire,
Smells of human fear, desire
Wets its wanton appetite,
Its lust for flesh unsatisfied.
III
In deep despair and dark illusion,
'Twixt the night and blink of day
Lives the seeds of heart's confusion.
Snarling fangs dripping, craving
Virgin blood and virtue waning,
Weakened by its fiendish jaws,
Death grips the soul in silent awe.
IV
And spirits brave quake and quiver
Underneath their cloaks of honor.
Ghastly, pallid chills delivered
by those gently clicking talons
'Gainst the fragile windowpane.
End of child hood close at hand
When the Wer stalks the land. *I wrote this a while back trying to keep a rhythm pattern of 8-7-8-7 but it didn't workout that way. Does it work well this way or should I keep trying? |

I don't know about keeping any rhythm pattern, but the piece danced and sang, is what I do know, rhythm pattern followed, or no...*CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!* Got more stuff like this, RRW? Nir.  |

Thanks, Ani! I got a couple more in the same vein. I have a Vampyre piece that I was thinking about posting as soon as I read a few of yours. I'm looking forward to reading the epic piece you wrote.
