A spider spun a web of gold unnoticed in the damp and cold. What was the web this spider spun? breeze-ruffled grasses bathed in sun, filmy-green trees crowning the hills, gardens adorned with daffodils, skies of soft white and softer blue, fragrant red lilacs dipped in dew. The spider web soon snagged a fly, caught suddenly zigzagging by, forever caught on helpless wing. I am that fly; the web is spring.

Dear David:
Thank you so much for praising "The Web." I wrote this when still in school and received a mixed reaction from my classmates when it appeared in our school paper. Some liked it; others were repulsed by the thought of any fly caught in any spider web. But I think most did like it, and I'm glad you did, too! It means a lot to me.
Best regards,
Monica

May was such a busy month for me, personally... That I missed reading this jewel of a poem, Monica. Myself, I adore the you as the fly, spring as the web connection!!!! Thanks for sharing, madam! Got more? Nir.

Dear wistfuldragon and Nir: (This is a joint note because I can't separate your two posts -- don't know how to do it; there appears to be no room to respond in between them.) Thank you BOTH very very much for your favorable comments about "The Web," an old chestnut which I first wrote in school and which received at that time a mixed reaction. I revised it slightly, but the essential theme has remained the same. Your kind words really are appreciated! Monica
