what are they?
HTML code that over-rides the default presentation of most boards. They allow you to lay your writing out as you would wish.
where are they?
8th button along on the top row of grey boxes. Pull up another screen, click on start new thread and just click it to see what they look like ... don't forget to delete/reset rather than post ... *grin
I have been using these tags to format some of nimbusGLOW's poetry. It does have some limits (probably mine, i am still learning) but this is sort-of:
how to use them
1. Paste your poem into text box as usual ... set it out as you want it to look.
2. Highlight entire text
3. Click the pre tag button. This will place a code at the start and end of your text.
4. Click preview - you will find it is a horrible size due to it over-riding the usual default so you add this back by
5. Highlighting everything again (including the tags) and clicking on the font size button (next to last on top row of grey boxes) This inserts a tag that says font size=2.
6.Change the number from 2 to 3 (delete it to put own number there) Preview again. The size should be right now, but this is where the fun starts! Keep aspirin and patience handy!
7. Sometimes the tags play havoc of their own and you just have to keep adjusting ... previewing ... one change at a time if necessary... until you have made things on screen look as you wish. How it looks on the text screen may be different than how it is on open screen, don't panic! Make a coffee! Just keep tweaking away with re-aligning words or lines til you get it.
8.You can still add bold or italics to individual words or lines as per usual ... again, don't worry about the build-up of tags ... they won't show onscreen (the brackets tell them to be invisible)
9 (optional) Some of my poems have wanted the pre tags around each verse. I don't know how or why, but if it doesn't work with the tags around the whole then just fill the text box with lots of the little beasts, they will only show onscreen if you make a mistake with a bracket.
Sometimes i have had to retype a poem into the text box rather than c/p it because spacing can still be difficult ... just imagine that you have made the board schizophrenic and now you are trying to negotiate between the two of them while painting the front room at the same time ... *wicked grin*
Give it a try ... i am sure that if something gets posted that you don't want either you can delete it or you could PM David and as admin he can do that for you!
