Hi all, just thought I would let you know how it went. The poetry reading was last Saturday. Thought I was going to faint, was alot of people there. I took alot of tips from John and David and Sabrina and friends. It went amazingly well. Was asked at a reception if I was planning to publish a book. An awesome copliment, not ready for that yet, need to get better, more polished, but I regress. I read some of the poetry I have here and others.Gorbichov, was a great hit. I did a mix of funny and sad, and stuff to make you think. I only had one comment that was not very nice. An "academic blowhard I have known for years told me that he was amazed that I had the gall to get on stage and read my" so-caleed poetic dribble" He said my form stank and the only thing that made it bearable was my delievery on some of my trite contributions. I told him that at least "my dribble got pure honest emotion from people while most of the audience slept through his. Then I turend around and walked away. Am still congratulating myself for my punching his smug face. lol Just thought inquiring minds wanted to know how it went

Congratulations for having the courage to read your work in public Vix, it must have been quite a buzz for you With regard to the 'academic blowhead' I'm pleased that such blatant rudeness and negativity didn't ruin the occasion for you, it just shows we breed em tough on this site Now that you have done it once i'm sure you'll want to do it again. You know, I'm glad you left us some information...As I was wondering yesterday, if you'd had your reading, yet...Good to know it went well and you were pleased with it...As it's what you think of what you did, that matters...
As for the academic blowhard male twit...Most likely he is jealous and being insecure was hoping to knock your writing legs out from under you as you were received so much better than him...
Screw him...No, don't...He doesn't deserve such a reward...LOL...
I don't get the jealousy or insecurity factor some people seem to be afflicted and inflicted with...
Sabrina.

Hi David, Sabrina, It was alot of fun, am going to do a couple of readings for a few literary clubs and for a class that a friend teaches. As for the academic twit... Sabs, not screwing him would end the species... it would die out. He was pissed. I got laugs. He didn't. I had many people congratulate me for a job well done. He didn't. He, apparently has done these before and has had few positive reactions. I think it galls him that I was well recieved and he was not. He also had to get in a good jab about the appropriatesness of my dress. I sat on a stool, was wearing a dress. I have good legs.lol Again thanks for all of your support. Always Vixen

On the other hand his incineration performance might be more worthy than the one he put on for you. Nahhh, don't give him the power of another moment's thought ... You did good!! *hugs shell

Again, thanks all. I think the thing that galled him the most was that I was once a student of his, He ripped apart my work in class and made it a dead thing. (only C I ever had, rotten guy messed up my GPA) I took another class from a different instructor and submitted some of the same work and got A's. He's just a jerk. I think he has a hard time with competition. I am also a competitor, but not in the realm of writing, there just is no way to compete in art. Art comes from you individual mind and there is no way that one could come up with the same pespective. And as for John not being a poet. You are Mr. John Be proud of the fact, you are one of the best I have ever read. Anni, I agree with your assessment, you are certainly a sage. Vixen

Rob, Please don't put yourself in the same category as that pompous ass. I don't know what kind of teacher you are. But, you can tell alot about a person through his/her poetry. You are a kind, compassionate and thoughtful man. I have no doubts that you can give a very critical critique, but I still think it would be fair. I think you would find at least one nice compliment about it. That would be the actions of a thoughtful man. Thanks again Vixen

I like to think I am very objective about critiquing art. But a lot of people just are out to stroke their own ego. I'm not sure why. Critiques need to be taken with a grain of salt. You do have to take into consideration the source of the critique. There are only a select few people I listen to or ever ask their opinion. But there are always those who want you to know how they feel whether you want to hear it or not. What I always do is ask them why they feel that way and keep asking why till they get tired of answering. usually they don't bother me again. ;D

Aww, come on Rob. Your poetry is thoughtful, you have given it the once-over at least 5 times. You can't write that well the first time... maybe you but and if you do.... your the only one, and I'm jealous as hell. I love the subject matter of your work. It is so varied. And... you are compassionate, I've never met a teacher who wasn't. Do you teach on-line classes.lol I still take classes, self enrichment or some such thing. Anyway thought I would clear that up. And, thats all for the nice compliments. It makes my heart sing and giggle. That is the most rewarding thing about writing something well, that people say , Oh my God, been there done that. lol Vixen
