We could be eagles if we weren't afraid to fly. Perhaps beautiful white whales we all might become if the ocean didn't make us sigh; too much salt water can do that both to the soul and eye. Hmm, maybe we were meant to be tiny rocks on a desert island basking lazily under an opal sun... No. We'd be just as sad for we would have no legs to run and nowhere to go... Humans are a funny bunch. They always complain about this and that... Yet, you never hear such despair from a puppy dog or sewer rat. When was the last time you heard a sparrow cry, "My life sucks!" I doubt you ever heard such from even a grouse whose future is really nothing to shout about. Can you imagine life as a rabbit? Hippity hop, hippity hop all through the year. What a disgustingly bad habit to bear. And ... they only eat vegetables! That's unacceptable. Sorry, I can't relate to any cute little beastie who nibbles away at lettuce all day with a bucktooth smile and never enjoys the succulent taste of a big juicy steak not even once in a great, great while.

it is so true, the only ones to whine about their lot ... well, that would be us ... even in the most fortuitous of circumstances, there is always something to feel short-changed about ... maybe it's since we got infested with the more/less/better/worse bug ... maybe it's also our spark, should we choose to ever use it ... in the meantime, hurl me a steak would ya?
This poem is wrily humorous .. maybe even heading towards existentialism? (will put that on my next google search *grin*)engaging from start to end ... i don't know if we are simpler than we like to think or so complex that it ain't real ... or even workable .. thank you for a superb look at our selves!

Thanks, Shell! I got a lot of friends who worship animals and despise human beings... but... and I'm not bragging... what the hell could be better than us?

*CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!*
Got more, RRRRRRRW?
~*~
We would be eagles... If only we had... Wings, beaks, claws and such things...
Instead we have lips to kiss with... Arms that mayn't span the sky, but that can span the shoulders or the waist of the ones we love...
We would be eagles... But, instead we're humans... Me, I'm rather happy with my lower status...
I'd rather kiss the cheek of my child, than puke her breakfast down her throat...
And sex in the air, has it's chills and thrills, I'm sure... But, I'd rather orgasm kissing my chosen lover, lashes blissfully lowered like fans across my cheeks... Instead of having to keep one eye open, making sure, we aren't both dashed to the ground during copulation...
We would be eagles... If only we had... Wings, beaks, claws and such things...
~*~
*ggglgggl* DG...Will you please tell me to shut up, Nir?

Sam I would like to be an animal. I really think I would. Not have to worry about bills or money anymore or talking to people that do.

The grass is always so much greener, on the other side.. until we get there and discover it is nothing but mud and hollow trees.
Again, I am awed by your talent. Thank you for sharing rrw.

Thanks, Soul. Yeah, that is the idea of the poem. No matter how tough we think this life is as a human, it's still the best show in town.

RRw, it wonderful. Its a wry look at our species, we are the smartest of all creatures, but don't allways have the common sense God gave the geese. Vixen

You're right, Vix. But common sense is a little overrated. ;D
