somebody take my picture, quick!
right now kathy’s upstairs baking something. i don’t know what it is, but the recipe calls for whiskey.
she asked me to get it for her, so i dug a bottle of Jack Daniels out of the liquor cabinet.
it’s right now sitting on top of the desk in front of me, along with my reading glasses and some poems i just finished.
it’d make a great picture…
the hard-drinking and harder-living poet, knocking off the poems and the JD with equal skill.
a great picture.
take it now.
take it now and i’ll sign it for you.
take it now and i’ll give you twenty bucks to go away.
take it now before you go upstairs and take that other picture…
you know the one..
me, in an apron, taking cookies from the oven.

well...that was a winsome picture of one slice of a poet's mundane everyday life...
and though i'm not sure you meant it that way...the last stanza i interpreted to point out, the other half of you, is her...john bespelling kathy, upstairs... so, get a snapshot of her, too, to get the complete picture of who you are...
then again, interpreting poems, like interpreting the future from my dreams, has never been my strong suit...lol...nir

sabrina; you GET my poems. you understand what i'm doing. i think that's why sometimes when i go to a new site or someone reads my poems for the first time they just see simple shit...they think "no big deal here"...but it's about communicating...making a picture. oftentimes i hear from people that they can "hear" me reading my poems. i think that's because i've taken pains to present a real person in my poems. that's also why i'm not afraid to present the occasional fluff piece like this cake poem. it helps complete the picture. thanks. john

picture yourself in frames of half-reality and half-fantasy, if not so the autographs will never be signed.

Yeah, John, I just keep saying the same thing over and over again about your poetry. They are written snapshots about your life, "Look, here we are in Hawaii. That's me on the surfboard." I just get these very clear, very specific pictures in my head when I read you. Great job.
