A thread to post links to resources and publishers and contests and guides and other related stuff. Here is one I recently came across: www.arcpoetry.ca/portage/publishers/Excellent resource for those looking to be published in Canada.

I think it would be a good idea for any or all of us interested in publishment to check this link out, Glenn. I don't think it matters in what country we are published, just that our poems make it to publishment.
Good to see you're still hanging on the planet, breathing the same fetid, polluted air as the rest of us...Wait a minute...You're in C-Land...Might be breathing cleaner air...Take care and don't be such a stranger!

Thanks, Sabrina. Yes, I'm still alive and kicking, sort of. Been taking some time away lately.
I have managed to collect about 40 or 50 poems of mine that I figure might be fit to see print. I wonder what the usual quota is for poems/publishment? 30? 50? 75? I'll have to do some asking around, I guess.

I looked at the thread you linked, David. Good discussion and useful to read, but I was hoping in this thread to move away from any person's specific experience of having poetry published. Well, maybe that doesn't state it exactly. What I wanted for this thread was to see actual names of publishers, actual contests people could enter, actual "resource guides to getting published" people could consult (preferably free of charge). Links to above-said also good. So the anecdotal, individual experience with being published and commentaries on the need to be published probably belong in the thread David linked a couple of posts back. This thread is meant to show actual contests that promise fame or money or both, actual publishers who actually are putting poetry in print, possibly even paying -- in actual coin of the realm -- poets for that privilege, and actual resource guides people can read. Make sense?

Glenn,
I was just checking out the link you so kindly provided...Quite interesting...And I was wondering, are these various venues open to all poets, or only those living in Canada? I found myself rather excited just reading through the link, even if it's not open to all.
I know of at least two of our members, whom are Canadian: yourself, of course; and Netfolk, aka Bernie...
Really appreciate you taking the time to post this...

As far as poetry contests are concerned, the ones designated as Canadian may be open to Canadian residents only. Probably there is a set of rules for each contest, and anyone interested in submitting an entry would be advised to read the rules first.
However, I believe all of the links I have given above have an "International" category, so for non-Canadians using these links maybe that listing would be the best place to start. The link to Canadian poetry contests appears as well to list a whole set of British contests. I haven't read the entry rules to see if those contests are open to non-Brits or Brits only.
From what I have looked at so far, it seems like many of these contests exist as a means to spark interest and provide financial incentive to a select national group of poets. But there may be a possibility for non-residents to submit work in a special category (though it may not be eligible to win the big money prize, if there is one).
In any event, anyone here, no matter what country he or she comes from, is welcome to post links to contests, publishers, resources, and whatever that applies to their own country of origin.
