The world is held together by reasonable people
reasoning that their way will last the ages
and in these ages we live in, we have watched
kingdoms fall, coups rise, dictators leave prison
to take the reasons as why things must remain
status quo or at least the same people have
the same damned seat they commiserate
benefitting from the innoculation to the everyday
pain we run along with reasoning how it comes to be
should we break the rules, eat the sacred cow
because it has truly grown fat in this expanding pasture..
The world is the way it is because of some reasonable adults
building on old foundations the new variant of the same ole virus
just more resistant to the old defenses
and somehow, we live with the repetition of the same cliche
cookie cutter pressed colloquial coctail
just too hard to swallow, more reviling the spit back up
and wishing for new grapes to press perhaps
a more palatable blend, while the theives work between the lines
of the rules that we know don't work and the reasons we keep them
because of being in a reasonable society, we stay close to the sides
that have always been pushed forward and used again and again
to tell children they cannot fly, they cannot bring back to life a lost puppy,
their wishes might need to be curbed just a bit, or that there is not enough
after mother hubbard gives the dog its bone
in all that we have, all we have been shown
we dance the same line dance, we dance alone
and forget that the sweetest dreams we ever held
were when we were unreasonable children,
building a world that could have been,
had we not become so damned reasonable....
