What's your religion?

We all believe in something
no matter how fuzzy or out of focus that something is
ideas and images and thoughts and things
we carry in our heads
hopefully modulating our mood swings

If we were to sit down and talk over coffee, you and me, would you listen?
If I explained my beliefs to you in detail, would you let me in?
Could I pass over the threshold of your church door in peace?

If you knew who I really am, would you embrace me with open arms,
or would you ban me from your presence for "daring" to think differently than you?

You'll proudly shout, "Jesus is Lord!"
Have you read what it was reported he said?
I carefully point out certain parts, while you fixate on another part.

We just can't agree.
If I try to talk to you, we wind up talking past one another.
Do we apprehend the same reality? Are our brains built differently?
For that matter, do we recognize the same deity?

What do you believe in? What do you worship?
What we worship is what we become.
Divinity is, in actuality, a picture of what you think humanity should be.

I have never been fully comfortable with this vision of 'we' you promulgate.
It does not seem to include the likes of me. Why? And you wonder why
I don't believe what you believe.

What if we replaced the word 'believe' with the word 'belove?'

Love this, Phantasm! In the 60's, the scientists predicted a lot of what's going on now, mostly due to over population. I wonder if we can't hear each other because so many more people are talking now. No, making that "screaming" now.
