You guys, this is a few weeks out but our political leaders need to get a massive earful of hollering and yelling. There is legislation in the works that threatens Net neutrality. Basically, what Net neutrality means is internet service providers (ISPs) have to provide equal access to all websites and apps that use the Net in some capacity. Now it looks like Net neutrality legislation is up for debate again. A vote on it will hit in a few weeks. Call or write your local congress rep and let 'em have it. Don't let the corporations get their way. go here: contact your representativeGo to the upper right hand corner of the website and plug in your zip code, from there you can find a link you can click to contact your rep.

Essentially, what could happen is that an ISP could in theory put some websites like wikipedia in a "fast lane" where they load pretty quickly, while slowing down obscure websites to a crawl. It might depend on popularity of traffic.
What it really comes down to is censorship. The possibilities for censorship are mind-boggling. Who gets promoted and who gets demoted could become a massive political fight. Or religious. Or social. Or for any reason, or no reason. It could drive people to drink deeply from certain sources of information just because they load more quickly.
Currently, something called Title Two Net Neutrality rules prevent this sort of thing from happening.
When you contact your Representative, you could write/say something like, "I urge you to oppose the FCC’s plan to repeal Title Two net neutrality rules." Something along those lines, anyway.
I wrote an email to my own rep a bit earlier today......

I think this is timely subject matter. I keep hearing about Net neutrality. This hip pocket site of ours here could even be adversely affected. (Hope I didn't mean effected. ) Thanks for the heads up and taking the time to insert a link all of us may easily use, Phant!

Effected means to actually do something, to execute, produce or bring about something. It's an action word of actually doing something, i.e. "He effected a reorganization of the finance department."
Affected is used to describe something being impacted. This is a word you would commonly use when something has been impacted, i.e. "The accountants in finance were affected by the reorganization."
(I grabbed this off of the first website I found in a google search...)

I've been emailing my local representative several days in a row now about this issue. I'm not going so far as to spam him, but I'm making my thoughts about the issue known. Hopfully they will help clog up his email server.
