The Pendulum
I contemplate time and how history repeats itself,
like a pendulum that swings back and forth,
perhaps to save us from our extremes
when we throw moderation away.
There are those that turn to the old way
of a dictator king, a ruling elite, a religious state,
the very system our founding fathers left behind
to build a new nation upon the liberal ideal of freedom.
Perhaps the pendulum swings the way it must
to restrain the unrestrained sides
that move back too far and forward too fast,
we may be in for one hell of a ride.
