pint sized fellow travelers through a never ending nightmare life of extremes
their shared path littered with monstrous pitfalls and random comets of terror
bombarding the sullen air they anxiously breathed eyes perpetually wide with fear
oily despair oozed from walls that should have been a haven bedsheets slimed with the piss
of childish desperation often hungry, beaten and neglected no sanctuary to be found here
in the house their parents called a home but the children knew better it was a living hell

A very stark and thought provoking write Vulture... And sadly in some cases very true.
Such a very good description of a facet of humanity many would rather hide away in the dark corners of their minds.
An excellent write my friend.

Child abuse and neglect is always stark. I find many humans prefer to put such dark matters from their minds. Pretend such things are not happening in a home. Under the guise of "minding one's own business". Especially, before the advent of Child Protective Services in 1974. Sadly, that office does not have enough people power to deal with the monumental case loads. So many children fall through the cracks. So many "parents" still unreported.
Thank you for your read and comments, Darkness.

Child abuse has been around a long, long time. And perhaps one of the most difficult crimes to identify at times.
This goes through all sections of society. The church, schools, Politics. In homes. There is nowhere I fear that is not tainted by this in some way.
I agree. Not enough people investigating. Not enough support for the victims of this heinous crime which blights children's futures in ways that we can't imagine. And those investigating can 'burn out' because of the things they have to see and hear during their investigations. I'm sure you won't see the world quite the same once you have to delve into the darkness and see this facet of humanity.
What makes me more angry about this than anything else is that some of the very people a child should be able to talk to about this could also be abusers. it's a very sad state of affairs.
Child neglect can go hand in hand with abuse. Physical and sexual. There are some people who should have never had children. These are things many would feel i'm sure.
It's a very complex subject which has many causes and effects. And no easy answers either. No one is born bad. But something goes wrong along the way. It's something I feel society as a whole must face up to.

Yes, child abuse has been around as long as there have been children on the planet. I do feel when Child Protective Services was initiated in the States in 1974, it did stay the hand of at least a few. Especially, after folks started actually calling and voicing their concern for children in certain homes.
Then this unholy hot mess going back decades with the Catholic church and certain of its priest inability to keep their hands off of children. I have to get off of the subject, or I'll start foaming at the mouth, standing on my soapbox, ranting and raving. Shutting up. Hehe.
Thanks millions for the read and comments, Darkness.
