Years from now when they are gone will anyone remember the inhabitants of this home?
When the trim gardens have disappeared and the yard unkempt has grown will anyone remember? A family lived life to the fullest- loved, hated, hoped, and despaired beneath this decaying roof
In the future will a neighbor walking pause in remembrance thinking- "Yes, in this house they did live?"
I think none save this house shall remember any of us as it crumbles resignedly into the dust with a tired drawn-out sigh
But who among us nursed within these walls will still be alive to remember this house these cobwebbed halls?

We only live on as long as people remember us. Even those that put their lives on the likes of facebook. In time even this will fade from view. Leaving stacks of faded photos and letters that can only give a tiny glimpse of what we were. Long dead faces look out, and strangers looking at them only see the scantest trace of us. A very thought provoking write anirbas. Beautifully done my friend.

I believe that when we leave a place, a part of it goes with us and a part of us stays. We shape our spaces, and our spaces shape us.
(Just a piece of wisdom I've picked up along the way...)

I actually wrote this in the Eighties, Phant. (2007 was the first time I had posted it on this site. I believe I posted it at Bnet, before that.) While wandering the country out and around my father's property in east Texas, I came across a derelict, one story house, that had to be at least a hundred years old. It set me to wondering about the families that had lived there over the years and what the house had seen of them. Which set me to wondering what the house I grew up in, might "remember" about my family. Poor house. What a nightmare it must have everytime it thinks of us...
