All eternity.
Once we lived a life
so devoid of pain and
suffering, and we could
feed within the night as
vampires should without
a care for life, or question
the meaning of our existence.
I don’t know for sure
when that slow creeping
madness came upon her.
All I know is it was a slow
progression of events that
led her spiraling downward
to insanity.
Admittedly I turned her
from the world of light,
for her beauty was so hard
to let slip by. So by my bite
I made my own graven
image of desire,
an image that I now regret.
And so we shared the
darkness of the night,
the pleasures of our sin.
The excitement of the hunt.
The sating of our hunger
with the kill.
Perhaps eternity is too
much to bare for some,
I should have drained
her dry and left her to
that heaven where she
once wished to dwell.
Even now I hear her cries
and ravings as I wait for
night to come,
those plaintive cries
for blood she’s lacked
for twenty years.
Her coffin sealed
for all eternity.
Darkness.

I thought of how someone might react to the realization that they would be on this world forever. And how individuals might react over time. You have to ask yourself would you really want to live forever? It's perhaps not what you would think it might be. You would not be able to stay in the same place for too long as people would become suspicious of you. You would need to constantly learn new languages and customs to make sure you don't stand out too much in the crowd. That is of course if you lived in populated areas. To become a drifter through the world at large. Live for a while somewhere, but have to move on when the time came. That's not for everyone. Only a few. It would drive many insane after a while. Then what could you do? So probably best the four score and ten. Thank you anirbas for reading my friend.
