There are two worlds World number one is hunting world number two The latter is going to extinction By way of intinction
It is being drowned, but it's not going without a fight The question is, what world should we fight for? We must navigate the darkness, but by whose light? Everyone is offering a torch or a flashlight
BUT
The light you cast changes what you see You use one person's light, you stub your toe on a rock but avoid the cliff
With another person's light, you skirt around the bolder in your path only to take a plunge
In what light will we live our lives?

The world is what we make of it. Our own lives, and collectively the world around us.
Arguably, being the dominant species on on the planet makes us the custodians of it... We've made a bad job of it so far. And for many other species we shared this world with we have extinguished their kinds. And still are to this day.
The problem is we have become too successful. And be assured at some time in the future nature will address the balance. We are arrogant as a species, and our way of life now is a far cry to how things were when we used to work with nature.
Excellent thought provoking write Phantasm.

Actually, we haven't acted much like custodians. The fact is we have to have the word 'custodian.' This sort of behavior doesn't come to us instinctively.
For countless centuries the first arrivals to a land drove the big charismatic animals to extinction, wielded fire to create firewalls that hemmed in the animal they were hunting and send it over the edge of a cliff, or otherwise do something similarly death-dealing.
One of our first techniques for farming was slash-and-burn agriculture.
We harnessed fire, yes. Just barely. We started burning shit and stuff and found out, "Hey, this is fun." Fire is the proverbial gun in your parent's closet. We found it, waved it around, aimed it at a sibling out of ignorance. So-called "Accidents" were practically baked into the system from the git-go. "Accidents" were inevitable. So we drove a wide variety of species to extinction. Not to mention who-knows-how-many forest fires.....

Slash and burn still continues in parts of the world. We change the landscape without seeing the consequences. But for those who are just trying to scratch a living they cannot see the big picture. However those who create huge plantations are well aware of the consequences. But don't care. Take the money and run it seems... But where to if you destroy all by their actions?
We have been ignorant to our actions. What good is money if you can't spend it?
Live for today seems the attitude of many. Our throw away society is just beginning to come back to haunt us in ways we yet do not know.
