Ship of Fools

Come on aboard the ship of fools
drifting aimlessly around in circles
slowly descending the whirlpool of betrayal
headed for an endless cycle of pain and retribution
to no good end
no healing could possibly come of it, . . .
but all who hop aboard eagerly
know this!
Tragedy,
when people cup their hands around a flame
to keep it alive
and that flame is a sputtering fuse
that leads to naught but destruction
and loss. . .
loss of love,
loss of trust etc.
What is gained in the place
of these precious possessions
is hurt and betrayal. . .
nothing that anyone should hold dear,
tragedy that sometimes people do.

I felt this piece, on a deep level. Sadly, many times those who betray or hurt us the most, are family members.
Parents, grown children, siblings and cousins can cut us to the quick, as none other can.
