As poets, it is our birthright
to use any given word
we deem necessary
to adequately
give any given
poem the voice
it needs...

For instance...

The statement
"our government
makes love to us",
simply does not have the bite,
as the same statement, written differently--
"our government fucks us"...

N'est ce pas?

If the word fits, feel free to write it, is what I'm saying...
No matter the genre the poem is written in...
And/or the board the poem is posted on...

Words are a poet's tools...
The vehicles upon which our thoughts ride...
Words take our thoughts from the abstract into the concrete...
It is our birthright to use these tools, or risk losing them...

Besides, censoring a poet is like asking a sculptor
to chop off his/her own hands...
Asking a runner to chop off his/her feet...
Or asking a musician to shove hot, ten-penny
nails into his/her own ears...

Feel free to create at will, folks
is the message I'm laying down...
And always, write on...
